One Day I'll Fly Away

One day I'll fly away to some serene place
Where I'll be free from the misunderstandings
Of a black kid living behind a white man's face

See I'm not black or white or even mixed
I embody all mankind, that is my Achilles heel -
My soul drowning in the river Styx

And one day my soul will be free
Free from this land of hypocrisy
That is destined to become more
Than a veiled democracy

For this is the country
Where racism was born
Well, maybe not born
But certainly formed
As a planned institution
To keep non-whites scorned
And poor communities torn

One day I'll fly away
If not physically then consciously
To somewhere beautiful
Where all mankind is treated responsibly.
