Thought of the Day
It really bothers me when Western feminists raise hell about the oppression of women in Muslim society. I always wonder if any of these fanatics have ever spoken to a woman who's subject to fundamental Islam's patriarchal wrath. Sure, in fundamental Muslim society women appear to have a crappy deal - to a secular Westerner. Does it not occur to the "proxy Muslim feminists" strewn about the small liberal arts colleges of America that their perception is shaped by their own cultural experiences? Experiences which are drastically different from those of women in the Middle East, thus providing little insight into understanding gender the way women in the Middle East understand gender. It's slightly absurd to promote the rights of an outside party, not to mention coddling and sanctimonious. Would the civil rights movement have been effective if it were led by upper middle class, suburban-raised, loafer-wearing, white college students? No, so if upper middle class, suburban-raised, sun dress wearing, white feminist college students are more concerned about women in Islam than women in Islam are worried about women in Islam then the time for protesting for the empowerment of women in Islam has yet to come. Lastly, I have the self-awareness to realize that because I'm male, my opinion on all of this means zilch. So if any Nazifembots are reading this, please don't take offense. There's no sense in getting all hot and bothered before attending your anti-pornography seminar at Skidmore College.
