Karen and Big Dwight
Two guardian angels were sent to me when I was in first grade
Maybe it was kindergarten.
I was their experiment as they recently told me
And their experiment yielded quite an outcome.
Their son and I were two birds of a feather
One black, one white - with a lot of gray in between.
They opened their home and their arms to me
And treated me as one of their own,
With a lot of tough love.
When I got out of line I was sure to be reprimanded
Their ideals were sternly imprinted on my conscience.
Karen and Big Dwight, now parents 5 and 6 -
Always there for guidance when I get caught in the mix.
