Thought of the Day

Reality TV is an oxymoron. Once a camera is introduced to a scenario, it ceases to be "reality," in the sense of honestly capturing everyday life. People's actions and behavior are subconsciously affected by the presence of a camera. What if the same were true of wild animals? Wouldn't it be crazy if animals were consciously or subconsciously behaving outside of the norm when they were being recorded? All the nature shows we watch on The Discovery Channel and Animal Planet would be complete misrepresentations of what animals are like in "reality." Shark Week would be just as accurate in its documentation of sharks as Jersey Shore is in its documentation of beach-dwelling, 20-something-year-old Italian-Americans.
