It annoys me when people overuse the phrase, "to be honest with you." The purpose of this hackneyed phrase is mystifying. Are you a generally dishonest person and enjoy emphasizing when you're being a straight shooter? Do you have a proclivity for sarcasm and want to clarify you're serious? Is this your weird way of assuaging people in an increasingly deceitful world? In what circumstance would I prefer for you to be dishonest, jackass?
