Thought of the Day
Let's not pretend the University of Louisville is the only school out there using prostitutes to encourage recruits to commit to their program. It's about time the NCAA and individual major sports universities admit to being what they are, a business, and adjust themselves accordingly for the sake of the players. We're talking about 18 to 22-year-old kids, amateur athletes, generating millions of dollars a year for their institutions, and they're expected to refuse favors!? Meanwhile, the university administration and athletic department is complicit in the actions of the very people putting these kids in compromised positions; dedicated fans, boosters, and other financiers and university "advocates," most of whom are alumni of the school and thus have a vested interest in building the athletic program's reputation by any means necessary. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get together with a bunch of MBAs from my alma mater, George Washington, and pool our money and resources to upgrade or replace the Smith Center, while simultaneously hiring a horde of high-end female escorts to reel in an excellent recruiting class, thus solidifying the competitive status of the team and the financial status of the athletic department. Then again, I took an ethics course at GW and know hypocrisy when I see it. This Louisville escorts scandal makes me wonder what kind of debauchery is going on at Nevada colleges, and whether or not the NCAA would interfere in those cases. Come on, let the boys be boys - whores have to make a living too.
