The Real Revolution
Early on in this blog I wrote that a revolution by the name of hip-hop was coming. I should have been more specific in saying that the philosophy of true hip-hop is driving the impending revolution. Let's face it: all commercial hip-hop is played out and programmed by the music industry. I'm guilty of listening to it and buying some of it, but it is nothing but puppetry for the masses to consume and perpetuate. Most beefs are staged and most rappers' images are fabricated for marketing purposes. Jay-Z even says not to fear rappers as they are no more than "DeNiro's in practice." What happened to hip-hop with a message and a purpose. Hip-hop with the intent to make change in the world for the better. Unfortunately it is becoming closer and closer to invisible in the public eye. And that's bad news for the future of the genre and the future of our children who are becoming brain-washed by the shallow, dispensable crap that is heard on the radio. Not to mention the music videos ripe with shadowy subliminal messages. The entire music industry needs a change for the better. The voices that speak the truth are not being heard and this trend has a negative impact on society in general. The revolution will come, but not until music with a purpose to drown out the material bullshit that is "pop" reaches the forefront of the industry.
