Thought of the Day
In the aftermath of George Zimmerman's "justifiable murder" of Trayvon Martin, it's abundantly clear that Florida needs to amend its self-defense laws by abolishing the "stand-your-ground" clause. The premise of not obligating an individual to retreat from another person who poses a physical threat welcomes unnecessary and preventable violence. It justifies barbaric, overzealous vigilante behavior from trigger-happy cowards like George Zimmerman. Self-defense laws in every state should specify that deadly force, i.e. the use of a weapon, is only permissible if the instigator is armed. This could be called the "meet force with equal or lesser force" law. In general, self-defense laws as they stand are too subjective and allow for scumbags like Zimmerman to interpret a threat as they see fit.
